Stepping Out of Comfort-Zones + Underwater by Marisa Reichardt

urowjiqps

Hello! Hello! Hello!

I recently read Maria Reichardt’s Underwater, which I really enjoyed. Underwater is about Morgan, who before the big accident had an almost perfect life. However, now all Morgan does is confine herself to her house. She will never dare to step out, she misses the water and she can’t forgive herself. When the new boy next door moves in, she is reminded of the happiness of her old life. Morgan gets to meet this new boy next door and when she gets to know him, even more, she feels like she now has the courage to step out of her comfort zone and back into the real world. The theme of pushing your limits and stepping out of your boundaries have always been something important to me. From when I was young, I would always try and test every single little thing. The theme of pushing your limits and stepping out of your boundaries have always been something important to me. From when I was young, I would always try and test every single little thing. Maybe that’s why I have a little bit of a dare-devil streak; I just love to take a chance and try everything even if it means stepping out of my comfort zone. I’ll admit, it scares me to try new things sometimes but sometimes thinking of the positive outcome pushes me through it. Roller Coasters are a thing I absolutely love but they can scare me so much too but I know that if I push myself to my limits I can conquer the fear and I’ll end up loving it the ride. Anyway, I decided to dedicate this post to three things I want to try that will really push me out of my comfort zone.

travelling alone

large (15)The concept of travelling alone has always excited me but is also extremely terrifying. Going to a country completely alone. All by yourself. With only you and your bags. To say it scares me would be the least but I know that it’s something that people say is really rewarding. Wandering down streets with no final destination, meeting new people and learning about their lifestyle and just reflected on what your life was and what it will be like in the future. I love the idea! Perhaps I should go with a friend but I do know for sure that when I’m older I want to travel to destinations that I have always dreamed of visiting.

bungee jumping

Bungee jumping is terrifying. Propelling yourself of a twenty-metre tall building is pretty scarylarge (16) and is way out of my comfort zone. However, there is something that is so satisfying about overcoming a fear you never thought you could conquer. Instead of bungee jumping, it could be climbing a building. I never nothing against heights but going too high and looking downwards is unbearably scary. Bungee jumping is knee-wobbling but I want to try it one day and I can officially say that I have conquered something that is way out of my comfort zone.

driving

large (17)Driving doesn’t scare me as much as the other two but it’s pretty scary. I am not old enough to drive yet…thank god but at the same time I am super pumped to start driving myself everywhere. However, driving a vehicle that could potentially kill me in one turn and go scares me. I know that one day I will start driving and I will conquer that fear. Driving will definitely push me out of my comfort zones and let’s just hope that I will not be a horrible driver…

These are just three of the many things I want to do that will make me step out of my comfort zone. Reichardt’s Underwater is amazing and will really provoke your thoughts. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a good contemporary. I know that I loved it and I am sure you will too. Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone is only one of the themes discussed in the novel. I can’t stress how good this novel is and you honestly have to pick it up!

what is something you want to try that will push you out of your comfort zone?

Five Reasons Everyone Should Read Whisper To Me by Nick Lake

Hello, guys!

I recently read Nick Lake’s latest novel Whisper To Me and I absolutely loved it. I think it’s one of my favorite contemporaries I read this year! There was just something so emotionally gripping about this novel that left me perpetually page-turning til the end. Nick Lake is truly talented and Whisper To Me left me breathless, touched and awed. I don’t want to give away too much about this book but here are five reasons you should pick this book up right now.

love letters + nick’s writing

One of the many things I loved about this novel, was its format. Whisper To Me is a long, d3oej1drawn-out love letter written by Cassie, who is the main character of the novel, to a boy she meets during a dark period of her life. Whisper To Me follows the story of Cassie’s previous summer in which, she went through multiple horrific events, which scared her mentally. Throughout the course of summer, Cassie hears voices, which causes her to do irreversible things and it leads Cassie to a downward, mental spiral. This story is a love letter and apology to the boy she meets. What I love about the format, is how genuine the book feels. It honestly felt like I was reading a private love letter. From the start, the novel jumps straight into an apology and the reader is left questioning what happens and throughout the story, we see the unfolding of all the events that happened to Cassie that summer. I literally felt like I was the boy reading the novel, it felt so personal and deep at the same time.

the emotions

There is something so intriguing about reading a book that tugs multiple emotions all at once, which I why I love books such as All The Bright Places and The Infernal Devices. All these books, unleash a whirlwind and roller coaster of emotions, whilst you are reading it. Whisper To Me did just that. About three-quarters through the novel, I knew I was going to be left emotionally unstable by the end of the book. Throughout the novel, I got attached to the characters. I really don’t want to spoil it but I can safely say that I had a gaping hole when I finished it. I shed a few tears and at the same time, I was so happy and proud of the main character. I felt every possible emotion whilst reading this book and it was one of the many reasons why I loved it.

mental illness from a deeper perspective

This book dealt with a lot of mental illness but from a very personal perspective. We never really get a proper diagnosis for the illness Cassie has throughout the novel but it definitely felt like PTSD and Schizophrenia. Not many books deal with this kind of mental illness, especially one from a personal point of view. It was really interesting to see how Cassie dealt with and how it really came to be. I’ve never really had a proper understand about how people deal with PTSD and Schizophrenia and how much it effects the people around them, although Cassie didn’t have full on Schizophrenia I really enjoyed understanding what she dealt with and it was so interesting to read about it.

the thought-provoking ending + book hangovers

e32e2mYou have probably heard a lot from other posts, that I adore thought-provoking novels. Especially the ones that leave you with an intense book hangover. I haven’t had a book hangover in ages and when I finally got one with this novel, my heart and emotions were not okay. I literally devoured this novel and my head was spinning by the end. I loved the ending and how realistic it was . Whisper To Me is so unique that you can’t help but feel attached to the events and characters in the book. I was left thinking about what happened in this novel, over and over again. If you are craving a book that will leave you with a book hangover, this book will definitely be for you.

whisper to me is unique in so many different ways

Yes, I am using one of the most cliche things in book reviewing but I’m not joking this book is so unique, fresh and different. I have never read a story like this and I honestly can not search or rack my brain to find one to compare to this one. It’s so wonderfully unique that you can’t help but love it. The themes dealt with in this novel are hardly touched on by other authors. The main character, Cassie is so different to a normal YA contemporary protagonist and the plot of this novel is unlike anything I have read before. Like I said before, this novel is an apology and love letter to a boy Cassie had harmed but loved during that horrible summer and throughout the novel, I was gripped.

Each element to this story is like an ingredient to a perfect concoction. There are obviously little flaws in the story which got my annoyed or frustrated but overall the positives outweigh the benefits and I discovered that this book was amazing by the end of it. Anyway, I really hope you pick this novel up. I honestly can’t recommend this book enough. I was definitely not disappointed!

have you guys read this novel before? what were your thoughts?
If you haven’t read it yet, don’t forget to pre-order this novel! It comes out in June and trust me on this, it will not disappoint you!

Thank you so much to Bloomsbury publishing. I received Nick Lake’s Whisper To Me from Bloomsbury Publishing, in exchange for a review.  Please note that this does not alter, influence or change my opinions on the novel, in this post.

“Maths + Romances” Teaser Tuesdays April 19th

jij'

Hello everyone!

Yes, I didn’t post all weekend or on Monday and I am sorry!! I posted way too much last week and I have been quite busy as it is the start of the term but I have a Teaser Tuesdays today *ques to confetti* 🙂 ! I will definitely have some reviews up later this week as well as I have read some amazing books lately. School has started again and that means I can say goodbye to fast reading. Every single time school starts, I will literally go through a book a month but I am trying to manage my time well this month. Hopefully, it will go well for me! Also, I hope you guys liked my last post, it was a bit different it was kind of a fashion/lifestyle post but I hope you guys enjoyed it. I don’t want to completely limit my blog to just books because I will for sure, burn out one day (although, I could probably talk to you about books all day long.) but I just would love to share some other things rather than just my bookish life. Anyway, let’s get into the actual post…Teaser Tuesdays.

currently reading: the square root of summer by harriet reuter hapgoodCapture

I am reading The Square Root Of Summer, which is a contemporary romance that I received from Pan Macmillan. I am loving it at the moment and I am currently, halfway through it. However, it is a bit slow, which is annoying. I love the main character, Gottie, she is such a unique and fresh character and I really enjoying reading from her perspective. I am excited to see how the story plays out but at the moment it is going awfully slow. Hopefully, it’ll escalate soon as I have high hopes.

“When he drops his hand, stepping away, all the stars ripple back. The whole thing only lasted for a moment- a fluorescent light on the fritz, spluttering in and out”

#tagtime: Secret Life Of A Book Blogger Tag!

gui n0mpi

Hiya!

Sorry for not posting as much as I normally would, I’ve been a bit busy and so I haven’t had much of a chance to sit down to do something I absolutely love: Blogging❤! I don’t really do tags that often but on the topic of blogging, I decided to the secret life of a book blogger tag! I got this tag over at the amazing blog over at Rattle The Pages (Hi, Cyra!!)! I hope you find yourself agreeing to some of these and here is just a little insight into my life as a blogger! Comment below if you have any answers to these questions! I would love to see them!

how long have you been blogging?

You know what, I’ve actually been blogging for about a year and a half but it honestly doesn’t feel like that! The year has gone by so quickly and with all the new tips and tricks I’m learning along the way it only feels like I’ve been blogging for about five months!

IMG_3090

at what point do you think you’ll stop blogging?

This actually scares me so much, my blog has actually grown into something I love! Knowing that one day, I’ll grow up and forget about this seems scary and unreal. I’ve met so many people and friends through this and to think that one day I’ll just leave this community scares me. So, like Jace once said, “Some things are too unlikely to dwell upon,”

what is the best thing about blogging?

Does everything count as an answer? Hahaha, jks. One of the best things about blogging is the amazing community (this sounds so cheesy) but honestly, the amount of super nice bloggers out there who actually take the time to interact with me, comment and chat with me is unreal! It honestly makes my day so much brighter!

what is the worst thing about blogging? what do you do to make it okay?

I don’t know what to say but there is one little thing that I find slightly annoying- the formatting. It takes so long, I remember when I first moved to this new layout and it honestly took me two days or so to get into the swing of things, finding design inspirations, searching for how-tos and setting up the move from my old website to this new one. The formatting is hard to get right and there is so much trial and error. One thing that I do to make it more tolerable is by thinking ahead. If I think to myself that when I finish this my blog will look amazing, I’ll be a lot more motivated.

how long does it take you to create/find pictures to use?

Well, I try to use all of my own photos and I try to edit them myself because it gives a much more personal look to my blog and not only that but I would hate to get caught out on copyright issues. Normally, I have photo shoots on the weekends and reuse them later on in the week for various things, such as my blog and Instagram. Then, I’ll edit them and add text and banners for my blog on website platforms like Picmonkey and Fotor. So for all the photos on one post, it’ll take me about five to ten minutes (not including photo shoot time).

who is your book crush?

This question… well, if you want me to list  hundreds  I mean a few book crushes I have here are some of them: Will Herondale, Jace Herondale (Yes, I love both of my Herondales #sorrynotsorry 🙂 ) and DAEMON!!!

what author would you love to have on your blog?

Hands down, Cassandra Clare! I actually want her on my blog one day! I’m going to meet her and get her to sign my twelve books written by her. (okay, maybe that is a bit too excessive)

what do you wear when you write your blog posts?

I don’t really have a definite answer as I’m one of those bloggers who will find any little space in my day to squeeze in a little blogging. However, I am currently wearing my pyjamas, which are just a t-shirt and pyjama shorts and I guess I wear them a lot. So, pyjamas are my answer!

how long does it take you to prepare?

Who would have known that a blog post can take three whole days to post? Sometimes, when I’m really motivated and it’s a pretty short post, like this one. It’ll take me about thirty to forty-five minutes. However, for reviews where I really have to compile everything and double edit my review, it’ll take me about forty minutes to an hour and usually about five to ten minutes for formatting the next day.

how do you feel about the book blogging community and nature?

I LOVE IT! Like I’ve mentioned before everyone on here is so nice to me and it takes me by surprise all the time! I get so many kind words and I feel like I can never give enough back! I’m so lucky because to me the book blogging community is like my second batch of friends.

what do you think one should do to get a successful blog?

The golden question- I think if someone found the answer to immediately creating a successful blog- they would be swamped with questions. For now, I think one of my main tips is to get out there and like, comment and chat with other bloggers. It’s one of the only ways to put yourself out there in the community- I mean, how else would they find you? Don’t be afraid to say hi or to compliment other bloggers because they love it just as much as you would!

So, what do you think? Comment below if you found yourself agreeing to any of these
or if you want to share a bit about your secret life as a book blogger!

who do i tag?

If anyone else wants to do this tag feel free to post it! I would love to see your answers! Here are some of my nominees:

f3inrop3
It’s nearly Valentine’s day and you know what that means?? Yes, today I have compiled a list of my top five ships! I’ve seen this around today, and I’ve loved reading every single one of them. I’m going to integrate a few things I’ve seen from other bloggers! Not only will I be sharing my top five pairings I’ll also share with you one of my favourite romantic quotes from the pairs! Don’t worry you aren’t the only one who has a thousand ships sailing around in their heart. This was so hard for me to choose but these are my Top Five Ships!

Who are your favourite pairs?

border-grey

  1. Will and Tessa: Wessa!
Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
Ahaha! Everyone probably will expect me to say this but honestly, Will and Tessa are like my favourite ship and I am definitely sure that this is my number one pairing. Will Herondale is perfect- he is blue eyes, a mysterious, yet caring personality and he just went through so much to save Tessa. *Puts in the heart emoji eyes five hundred times* It actually makes my heart flutter, whenever I re-read Will and Tessa moments. Imagine if I can’t ever find someone like Will! I can’t even go there, just like Jace once said, “Some things are too unlikely to dwell upon,” Seriously, though, I actually will die alone if I can’t find a Will. (Save me!)

“Life is a book, and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read, I would read them together with you, as many as I can before I die…”
    – Will Herondale; Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Princess

    border-grey

  2.  Percy and Annabeth: Percabeth
One of the very first ships I had, Percy and Annabeth will always be one of my favourite ships! I mean who else doesn’t ship this cute pair? Percy is the “Seaweed brain”, whilst Annabeth is the “Wise Girl,” They have been through so much and whenever I think of them I always am reminded of Callie Calet’s song, “Lucky” (Ahaha! Yes, everything reminds me of a song)! Not only that but it is actually my dream to fall in love with a boy because they have been my best friend, I actually think that falling in love like that is so cute!

” The rivalry ends here, I love you, Wise Girl,”
– Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan

border-grey

  1. Kat and Daemon: Lux
Lux. How could I not mention Lux? Kat and Daemon are just the cutest pairing and they are, honestly,  #relationshipgoals! If I  ever find a boyfriend like Daemon, I would die happy! No seriously, they always have the cutest moments and I love their little witty comeback fights! I am one of those readers who constantly whips out their phone in public to re-read their favourite moments in all my ebooks and I always come back to the Lux series to re-read their moments because (this is going to sound weird but…) they always make me smile.

“Did you think you could stop me? I’ll burn the whole world down to save her,”
    – Daemon Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout Lux Series

    border-grey

  2. Rose and Dimitri: Vampire Academy
    FullSizeRender (3)
Vampire Academy is so good and there was no way I couldn’t give this honourable mention of my favourite #ships to Rose and Dimitri! (#ROMITRI) I honestly love these two as a couple because Dimitri is the zen everyone needs in their life! Not only that but Rose was a character I looked up too and just seeing the two together clenches my heart! I haven’t read this book since the start of last year but I do remember loving their adventures! I have too many favourite moments but I think this one is a pretty good quote! (Seriously Dimitri deserves an actual award!

“If I let myself love you, I won’t throw myself in front of her, I’ll throw myself in front of you,”
– Dimitri Belikov, Richelle Mead Vampire Academy

border-grey

  1. Shahrzad and Khalid: The Wrath and The Dawn
I couldn’t choose for my last ship but I do love this pairing- Shahrzad and Khalid! What I really like about these two is the way their relationship developed, it was cliche yet unique in its own way. Shahrzad was the one who truly discovered who Khalid was and the fact that Khalid has been through so much just breaks my heart. I can’t wait for the next book! This books honestly needs more readers! Have you read this book yet?

“So I write it in the sky- I love you, a thousand times over. And I will never apologize for it,”
– Khalid, Renee Adeieh Wrath and The Dawn

I hope you guys loved this post and like me completely fangirled whilst re-reading these moments! These ships will probably be my #ships for a very long time! Who do you guys ship?

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!

❤ Obsessed with Rafe, I’ve lost my memory and now, I’ve Time Travelled ❤ January Reads!!!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hi!!

This is a bit late. (Okay, I’m four days late with this post but it should be fine!) I have read so many exciting books this January and I think I’m pretty well on my way to finishing a hundred books this year. I mean as long as homework doesn’t devour me, social media doesn’t distract me and I don’t fall into a reading slump, I should be able to complete a hundred books! What is your reading challenge?

Anyway, I have read a total of twelve books this January!! (I know, I think it’s a record if I can say so myself! ) I am so excited to share with you my favourite books, my dislikes and a brief note of my thoughts on the books I’ve read this January! This year has been a fresh start for me and I have enjoyed every day of it! I hope your January was a great start to making 2016 your year! I would love to add some book to my TBR: What have you read this January?

This was my favourite this month by far,  KISS OF DECEPTION! It was fortunately, one of my first reads, as well! I mean who couldn’t fall in love with this book! I absolutely loved it and the fact that it reminded me of the joy and heart-wrenching pain I felt whilst The Infernal Devices (If you didn’t feel heartbroken at any stage of this book, you aren’t human) So, for all you TID fans: You have to read this series!! The book hangover was actually unreal!!! I am definitely #teamrafe! I loved following the journey of Lia, Rafe and Kaden throughout the four-day period I read this book! I was submerged into this fantasy world and only just managed to pull myself out in one piece! I am desperate for the last book and I honestly need it now!

#SHIPITLIKEFEDEX! OMG RAFE AND LIA ARE GOALS!!

border-grey

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset   Aaron Hartzler’s What We Saw (Check out the review) was yet another highlight of the month! It’s one of those novels that shakes, racks and completely changes your view of society in just 400 pages! I absolutely love the cover (I know I’m superficial! Jks.) However, seriously though you need to get to this novel, it isn’t like any novel I’ve read before! If you loved Vanishing Girls, I think you’ll enjoy this. Seriously though, get to this book because you won’t regret it!

border-grey

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetTowards the end of January, I read the long-awaited novel, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken! I don’t want to spoil to much but I definitely had a lot of fun reading this novel! A review will be up in the upcoming days, so don’t miss it! It was a different novel to the books I normally read but I loved following this adventure! Both Nicholas and Etta are characters you’ll come to love! This book made me time-travel through so many different periods of time, which made this novel so much fun!

I also read Never, Never by Colleen Hoover and I am planning on reading the rest of the series this February! You can check out the full review here! What I loved about this book, was the fact that it is short, yet packs a major punch. You won’t be disappointed. Hopefully, the series will continue to get better but I’ve heard from a few bookstagrammers that it isn’t amazing (Yikes!) However, nothing can put aside the fact that this book is written beautifully well. It’s one of the best author collaborations that I have read! I loved reading about how these two main characters lost their memory, it was so well written that I felt like I had lost my own memory and it’s so r

This January, I also read was Zoe Sugg’s Girl Online and Girl Online: On Tour! I’ll tell you the truth, at first, I was very sceptical. This book is written by a YouTuber, not a professional author, not an editor- a YouTuber, who also supposedly wrote this novel with a ghost writer. I wasn’t expecting much. However, when I read this I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, the writing isn’t amazing and parts of the novel were a tad cliche, but it was pretty good for a contemporary novel. I’ve read worse and I really liked how the main character, Penny, was a blogger. The romance was pretty cute, you have to admit!border-grey

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 presetThis month, I have also read Trust Me, I’m Lying, Thirteen Reasons Why, Boy 23, How To Be Bad and Crown of Ptolemy! You guys can check out some of the reviews which I have linked. I absolutely loved Crown Of Ptolemy because Percabeth is life! To be honest, this novella had more percabeth moments than Blood Of Olympus, itself! So, if your craving some Percabeth! You have to check this novel out!

I hope you enjoyed my January Reads post! Did you read any of these books? Chat to me down below! I have also begun to settle down into a blog regime, which has made me extremely happy! I have updates my blog and have begun posting so much more! Do you like my new layout?
