As a bibliophile/book worm/book lover, I know that one of my favorite things to do is having the perfect night in. Although these nights may be hard to come by, every once in a while I’ll find myself with the perfect amount of time to have the best night in. I was asked by Leesa Mattresses, a mattress company, to describe my perfect night in and I thought that it would a great idea for a blog post! Here is a little step by step guide to my perfect night in!
step 1) the music
It all begins by hitting the play button on a playlist or song I love. As cliche as it sounds, music really does change the atmosphere. Paying my favourite songs on a night in is a must. I honestly wouldn’t know what I would do without music. At the moment I have been obsessed with Ed Sheeran’s new song Shape of You.
step 2) scrolling through we heart it
Once I’m perfectly tucked under my covers, lying on my front with my laptop placed right in front of me and my headphones on, I’ll type in we heart it into my address bar and start scrolling through countless aesthetic photos. We Heart It is like a stress reliever and I love being able to feel inspired just by looking at a bunch of photos. I guess what they say is true: a picture tells a thousand words.
step 3) cuddling up with a good book
Once I feel the need to read a book, I’ll turn off all the electronics for the night and prop up the pillows to create the perfect reading nook. At the moment I’m in the mood for a good contemporary and so I really want to start reading the Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson which has been on my TBR for ages. I’ll grab a good book, flip open the crisp clean pages and begin to dive into a new world. I try to tell myself to read at least 100 pages and I’ll usually end up losing track of time and reading way more than 100 pages.
step 4) bullet journaling
I really like taking the time just before I head to sleep to plan and organize what I’m going to do the next day. I’ll plan my meals, create to-do lists, shopping lists and homework plans for the next day just before I go to sleep so I’m all ready and set to go for the next day. If I have time I might doodle a bit in my journal and tidy it up a bit.
step 5) lights out
Everybody need beauty sleep, including me and every perfect night in will include sleeping. So the last and final step to my perfect night in will be sleeping peacefully knowing that I had the best night in! 🙂
That’s all for my guide to my perfect night in! Everybody has a different perfect night in routine so I challenge all of you to create a blog post and come up with your own guide to your own perfect night in! Don’t forget to tag me in your posts if you do! I would love to see what you guys come up with! Thank you so much to Leesa Mattresses for reaching out to me, if you guys are interested you are interested in some mattress options check some out here!
Okay so maybe July hasn’t been the best of months. First of all, the winter has been icy cold which has caused me to feel like a freezing block of ice. My self-confidence has been wavering in and out this whole month, which has caused a lack of motivation in many different things, including reading and blogging. I know I mentioned this a little in my previous monthly wrap-up but this month I really felt my lack of motivation and enthusiasm weighing in. To me, everything felt like a blur because I felt like I was going through the same routine every day. However this month I’ve learnt a fair few lessons in life and because of that I decided to write a post on it which will be out soon! 🙂 How has your July been?
Has anyone else realised that there are no good songs on the radio lately? Ugh. It’s so annoying because I love listening to the radio but there is never a good song. Nevertheless, I have to resort to my Spotify (not that that’s a bad thing)! Here are my latest favourite tracks!
I’ve been “healthy-cooking” for a long time now but I’ve only just realised how much fun it is to create something that is guilt-free. I love cooking healthy muffins and cookies and in the morning one of my favourite things to cook are healthy pancakes and oatmeal. Oh and let’s not forget smoothies and toasts. I think it is safe to say that breakfast is now my absolute favourite meal because I love getting up in the morning and cooking something that is simple, delicious and healthy.
For lunches, salads and rice bowls have been a go-to for me. I have to try to cook my lunches so that they are still fresh and delicious during lunchtime.
This semester I took up a photography elective but it isn’t about the normal digital photography. Instead, we have been working with film photography and it is surprisingly a lot of fun. I’ve been taking a trip back in time with one of my best friends and we have been shooting with an old film camera. I was born around the time film photography was starting to get less and less popular, which means I haven’t had a chance to use a film camera. I would love to show you how the photos have turned out but unfortunately, we are still processing the photos. When I get the photos I’ll try to share some with you guys.
*inserts a large photo of the embarrassed monkey* I haven’t been reading much and it has been frustrating me so much. I’m still reading The Girl From Everywhere! I think it has been because I’ve been lately recently but also I’ll confess: Gossip Girl has captured my attention. It is just so so good! I honestly just want to devour the whole entire show so I can know what is next. My heart feels like it has been on a roller coaster with this TV show! With August comes new releases and the moment Beauty of Darkness comes out I will hole myself up in my room to read it. I’m also going to a Rainbow Rowell and David Leviathan event with some of my good friends and hopefully, that will get me in a motivated reading mood.
It’s getting to that time of the year where even though, everything will be so hectic, you know that it’ll be the best few months of the year. I am so so excited for the things I have planned in August. Next weekend I’m going to the Selena Gomez Revival Tour with my best friend and words can not describe my eagerness. I’ve never been to a concert and to know that I’m going to one of my favourite artist’s concert with my best friend is the most exciting thing ever! Alongside that, I’m also going to be doing some exciting excursions and experience weeks with the school which is something I always look forward too.
I did recently write a post on my TBR but I thought I would specify some of the books I want to read this month:
The Blood in The Beginning | Kim Falconer
Caramel Hearts | E.R. Murray
The Beauty of Darkness | Mary E. Pearson
Kindred Spirits | Rainbow Rowell
I hope you guys had a great July and an even better August? What have been some of your obsessions in July?
Yes, I am writing this on the fifteenth of July even though this post should have been scheduled on the first of July. Sorry 🙂
June has been a very ordinary, yet exciting month. I was greatly disappointed due to the fact that I hadn’t read much at all in the month of June but I was also super excited for the holidays. Despite the fact that school was dragging along slowly when the holidays finally arrived I couldn’t contain my excitement, especially because we were going away. I visited many different places and it felt like such a relief to have the pressure of school lifted off of my shoulders. However, school has started again and I am so not ready but nevertheless, I am going to try to make this term a good one. Also, last month I took a few breaks with blogging and it felt nice to take a break but that still doesn’t excuse the fact that I love blogging and instagraming, which is why I’ll be posting lots more soon! Here are some of my favourites from last month:
Here are some of my recent obsessions!
I have been obsessed with Often by Kygo and of course, Shawn Mendes’ new song Treat You Better! I have literally been playing them on repeat and I can not get enough! I have been really loving I Heart Radio recently. Instead of playing my spotify playlist, sometimes I’ll put on a hit music station from the website. I’ve been loving the LA I Heart Radio Hits Station the most.
I only just started this show, so no spoilers, please! I watch TV shows awfully slow and although I started this show two months ago I’m only on season two. I try to watch it when I have spare time but the drama and gossip in this TV show is so so good. It may sound weird that I enjoy watching people gossip about others but this TV show is honestly one big web of interlocking events that has kept me so entertained!
Well…I’ve always had an obsession with shopping but because I have been shopping a lot lately, I thought why not add it to my obsessions list? I’m more of a summer girl and so lately I have been lots buying of summer dresses, some sweatshirts and bags. I recently visited this mall, which was huge! I spent nearly two days there shopping and I still haven’t visited every store in the mall. I bought heaps of stuff there and I can’t wait to wear and use them .
june reads + book hauls
As I mentioned earlier June was a disappointing reading month. I only read a few books, which include Rebel Of The Sands, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Last Star and The Leaving. Hopefully, July will be much more exciting in terms of books and I can’t wait to dive into some good books. Here are some of the books I got this month:
The Last Star by Rick Yancey (The 5th Wave #3)
Blood In The Beginning by Kim Falconer (Ava Sykes Series)
When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah
The Girl From Everywhere by Heide Heilig
Rebel Of The Sands by Alwyn Hamilton
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Caramel Hearts by E. R. Murray
Here are some of goals for this month:
– To workout more intensively and for more periods of time, as well as eating a proper healthy diet.
– To actually work on my blog and Instagram more seriously and with a proper effort and attitude. (*cough* as you can see that didn’t really happen for the first half of the month but there are still 16 more days)
– Write some more lifestyle posts!
– To balance most things in my life, especially the reading facet of my life. This brings me to my next point my July TBR.
Caramel Hearts by E.R. Murray
The Blood In The Beginning by Kim Falconer
The Girl From Everywhere by Heide Heilig
Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
Yay! So this is my June + July wrap-up and TBR! List some books you want to read this month, so I can add it to my own TBR! What have been your recent obsessions?
April has surprisingly been the best month of the year. I do really know what it is about April but I have felt so much more organised, less stressed and more prepared for the future. Lots of good things have happened this month, I’ve been started to establish some useful study tips, I’ve discovered lots of new favourites and I have told so much good news. Alongside that, I have received lots of new books, which is always a big plus. However, I think I am ready to say goodbye to April! I feel like April was a very transitional stage in my life because I have accomplished many little achievements but I am ready to move on to accomplishing and ticking some major goals for 2016! So…adios April!
With the end of a month, means new favourites and I have to share with you some of my recent obsessions! I have developed a love for so many new things this month. Maybe I can get you obsessed with them as well!
We Heart It
To say I love We Heart It would be a massive understatement. There is something so satisfying about hearting tumblr, inspirational photos and quotes. We Heart It reminds me of a hybrid of Pinterest and Tumblr! I have hearted so many photos and I’ve only had an account for about a week! It has definitely left me with a serious case of Wanderlust and right now I just want to travel across the world to so many different places! Not only that but We Heart It has provided me with lots of inspiration for some of my latest bookstagram photos! If you have a We Heart It definitely tell me! I’ll follow you back.
If you have been catching up with me on social media, you would probably know that I have recently been using a platform called Duolingo. Duolingo is basically a website where you can learn a bunch of new languages, with a set “Duolingo curriculum”. I’ve been using it a lot recently to learn two languages: Spanish and German. I learn a lot of German at school and I’ve always enjoyed practicing the language. So, I decided to start a Duolingo with it! On the other hand, Spanish has always been a language I’ve wanted to learn. I used to do it as a set language at my old school but since moving, I’ve never continued on with the language. It is such a pretty language and I thought why not?
I would never go through a monthly wrap up without talking about my latest music obsessions! Don’t worry I still play Shawn Mendes’ album on repeat but lately, I’ve been really into Halsey! I’ve only really listened to three or four of her songs but at the moment, I am loving Castle and Colors. I have also been listening to a lot of Ariana Grande’s new album Dangerous Woman, it has some of the best songs. I was never a big fan of her music but her latest album has some pretty good songs! I nearly forgot, Lose It by Oh Wonder has also been my latest obsession! I particularly like the Jerry Folk remix but because I can’t find it on Spotify I’ve included the original soundtrack.
april reads + book hauls
I actually have gotten lots of books this April, which is pretty exciting! I got quite a lot of exciting title from publishers! I have enjoyed so many of them but I’ll save my full thoughts for some reviews coming up! However, I am yet to get into many of them and I honestly can’t wait! Here are some of the books I read this month:
Whisper To Me by Nick Lake ♥♥♥♥♡
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes ♥♥♥♡♡
When We Collided by Emery Lord ♥♥♥.5♡
Underwater by Marisa Reichardt ♥♥♥.5♡
Yellow by Meghan Jacobson♥♥♥♡♡
The Devil You Know by Trish Doller ♥♥♥♥♡
This Is Where The World Ends by Amy Zhang ♥♥♥♡♡
Flawed by Cecilia Ahern ♥♥♥♥♡
The Square Root Of Summer ♥♥♥♡♡
The Rose and The Dagger by Renee Ahdieh (It was AMAZING and I am not ashamed to give it a million stars) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
I might do a book haul soon because I have just gotten so many books and I think I can save the titles for a later post! As I am writing all of my April reads, I actually can’t believe that I’ve read so many books! It’s out of this world and I am so happy! I didn’t even notice that I’ve read so much this April!
Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be reading as many books this May because I have lots of events coming up, which require my full attention and a lot of time. However, I am going on a city camp for a week so maybe I’ll get a chance to read lots of books during that time! I am planning on ticking off some new releases coming out this month, on my TBR! Here is a snapshot of my May TBR:
A Court Of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
A Darker Shade Of Magic by VE Schwab (Yes…I still haven’t read this yet)
November 9 by Colleen Hoover
Burning by Danielle Rollins
My Heart and Other Blackholes by Jasmine Warga
Hopefully, I’ll actually get a chance to read these books which have been lingering on my TBR for ages! I’ve been super excited to read A Court Of Mist and Fury but I need to skim through ACOTAR because I have a feeling I’ve forgotten bits and pieces! 🙂
So I wonder what is in store for me during May… I have so many exciting events this month! I MEAN IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!! WHAT??? *Parties* What is even more exciting is that my birthday falls on the date our school is having a city camp preparation, which means I get to celebrate my birthday without being in school, with all my friends whilst shopping and wandering around the city! It’s pretty exciting. However, I have a national exam next week which is pretty annoying but it’s unavoidable. I do have some goals next month, though:
Try to get back into some more healthy cooking and baking
Do well on the exams
Be happier and dare to try new things.
Well, that is all for my monthly wrap-up! Hopefully, May has some pretty good surprises for me in store and I think I am ready to say sayonara to April! I can’t wait to read some great books next month, tick off some monthly goals and continue to stay positive and healthy! I almost forgot one of my friends Rachel, (Hey Rachel *waves*) had her blog deleted and crashed, which is why she decided to restart her blog over here! Everyone should definitely check her new blog out!
how about you? what have you been up too this month? what are some amazing books you have read? i would love to read about your april! comment below or link your post!
Sorry for not posting much this week, it’s the last week of school (Yes!!) and I have finally gotten the chance to sit down to write this blog post. Since it’s the holidays, I am planning on getting lots of reading done and crossing off lots of books on my TBR! I can’t wait to sit down on my bed and binge read lots of these novels!
what’s going on in my life
March has been an eventful and chill month for me! (I know it’s weird) The first half of my month was quite ordinary: I was following my daily routine, completing assignments and school work and working out. However, the second half was quite hectic: tests were flying, I had a sports injury and my stress levels were soaring. Holidays just started! (Yay!!!) Hopefully, this holidays I’ll be very productive in terms of completing holiday homework, managing my blog and reading lots! The holidays will be ending mid April and after the holidays, I’ll be having school exams happening. I can’t believe this year has already gone by so quickly, which is both good and bad. I’ve been keeping a diary, and being the kind of person that never sticks to a schedule, I’m pretty happy because I have actually managed to keep a calendar filled with dates and it’s been sooo helpful!
I’ve been listening to a lot of new music lately that is a bit different to what is played on the radio. You can listen to my songs on the left! As you can see there is still Shawn Mendes on my favourites, and this is only a snapshot of my playlist. I still have many of his other songs on my playlist but I’m loving Strings at the moment. XO by Beyonce is a bit old but I rediscovered it again and I am loving it! If I were to recommend three songs you should listen to it would be:
Undress Rehearsal by Timeflies
Borderline (Vanic Remix) by Tove Styrke
Wild Things by Alessia Cara
favourite books this month
I’m so ashamed to say that I actually haven’t been reading much this month but I did read Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare, which took me longer than I intended but I did manage to finish it and I absolutely loved it! I linked the review but if you haven’t read this yet, you must because it is my favourite read of the month! I also read Emery Lord’s When We Collided which I really enjoyed! I’m part of the blog tour for this novel and I’ll have a review up soon! It was a great book and it kind of reminded me of the Museum of Intangible Things! I also just finished This Is Where The World Ends by Amy Zhang and it was a unique and fresh read that I needed. It was different to what I normally read and it had lots of John Green vibes! A review for this book will be up too! I’m reading Me Before You and I’m nearly done with it. I really liked Jojo Moyes’ discussion for the themes in this book, hopefully, I’ll love it as much as everyone else did by the end of it. I got lots of books this month but I want to make a video on it and so I won’t be putting a book haul in this month!
For my blog, I have been uploading quite a bit (except for this week hehe!) and hopefully, I can still continue to write more and more posts, especially since it’s the holidays. I think I’ll also start putting out some lifestyle posts too because I have lots of lifestyle post ideas swimming around in my head and who knows maybe it’ll become both a book and lifestyle blog by the end of the month, but I’m still working it out! I’ve been planning on starting a youtube channel for ages and I think I might film a video in the next few days and try it out! It’s just the whole filming, putting your face and voice out to the world, that freaks me out. I love talking and chatting, though and hopefully, it’ll turn out okay! For my channel, I think I’ll make it both lifestyle and book for sure. It may have a different name to my blog but who knows? I might not even follow through with the idea!
On my bookstagram over @hashtaglovebooks.alicia, I’ll be doing the #alyssaandaliciaapril2016 challenge! I’m hosting it with @alyssaisreading (I’ve linked her blog!) and I’m super excited! If you are looking for a good April challenge, you should totally join our challenge! We would both love to see your photos! Another exciting piece of news is, we’re nearly at 2K, which is unreal because I just started my account at the end of last month! I don’t know how I feel about my feed at the moment *sigh* but hopefully, it’ll get better!
This month I am planning on reading tons of books because it’s the holidays! Here are five books I am determined to read this month: (Can we just take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the cover for Whisper To Me!)
Whisper To Me By Nick Lake
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwan
November 9 by Colleen Hoover
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
99 Days by Katie Cotugno
If you are following my book group- @thereadingrebels You would know that our April Book Of The Month is Pride and Prejudice by Jae Austen!
goals for next month and what’s to come for april:
Hopefully, April will be one amazing month. As I have mentioned before, I’m trying to get lots of books read and I also want to write lots for my blog. I really want to get my study habits down because I’m still learning new tricks every day but with major exams and assignments coming out soon I want to establish and cement some good study tips and time management skills before the tests begin. I’ve been wanting to do a lot more sport lately because sport and running are somethings that relaxes my racing mind. I tried boxing this month and I absolutely loved it. I think I might find a gym I can sign up to and try some more boxing classes or circuit training.
how about you guys? how has your month been? what are your goals for april? link your monthly wrap-up below i would love to see it!
I found this super fun meme on The Hardcover Lover, called Soundtrack Saturdays! This will be a bit different to the meme on The Hardcover Lover but I thought I would just mention, that this meme will be based on hers. I’ll posting this every Sunday and therefore, it will be called Soundtrack Sundays! Soundtrack Sundays, is where I’ll pick a book that I love or have read recently and I’ll devise a four to five song playlist based on these guidelines:
❤ Include a song that you think goes well with the beginning of your chosen book
❤ Include a song you think fits the main character in your chosen book
❤ Include a song you think fits the evil character in your chosen book (This is a little something else I added)
❤ Include a song that represents a relationship in your chosen book
❤ Include a song that fits the ending of the book
If you have to know anything about me, it has to be the fact that I absolutely love music. From Shawn Mendes to Selena Gomez (Yes, they are both my favourite artists at the moment), I love anything that is pop or hit music. I think that it’s safe to say that most of the songs I’ll choose are the popular songs on the radio! 🙂 What’s your favourite song or who is your favourite artist at the moment? I would love to know! I don’t know if I’ll be doing this every week, but hopefully, I’ll do it again soon!
Today I’ll be choosing the Percy Jackson series:
Here is my playlist, which you guys can listen to :)!
Here are some reasons for my song choices, they may include spoilers for the series:
1) Never Forget You by Zara Larason and MNEK
I chose this song to represent Percabeth (#relationshipgoals!) because even when Percy lost his memory he still remembered Annabeth!
2) Drag Me Down by One Direction
No, I’m not a major One Direction lover who has their faces plastered everywhere. To be honest, this was actually the first song I truly enjoyed from them! I think it pretty much encapsulates the ending of the series because nobody could drag the ArgoII crew down! 🙂
3) The Trouble With Us by Marcus Marr and Chet Faker
This song symbolizes Kronos and Gaea because they really were lots of trouble but not only that, the gods are major troublemakers, which pretty much causes an overload of problems in the series!
4) My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark by Fall Out Boy
This song represents the start of the book because after the Minotaur had captured/killed Percy’s mother. His fire was lit and it was definitely, “Lighting him up,”
5) Stressed Out by 21 Pilots
I chose this song because Percy Jackson’s life was so simple before the books and then suddenly, his life was “stressed-out” after meeting and discovering the Greek Mythology world!
I hope you enjoyed this post and stay tuned for lots of exciting new posts, which will be coming out soon! What songs do you think represent Percy Jackson?
I am a huge music fan and my favorite genre is the hit music they always play on the radio. I don’t really mind what type of music it is, as long as it is the hit music stuff on the radio. Artists, such as Taylor Swift, Tove Lo and Ed Sheeran are all artists I love and constantly listen to. I thought it would be a fun idea to mash-up some of my favorite songs and pair them with a book that reminds me of that song! Don’t deny it, you have definitely heard a song and gone OMG that is my book in three minutes. List a song and book paring! I would love to see your mash-ups!
Cool For The Summer by Demi Lovato ❤ Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
Cool For The Summer has definitely been a summer hit and there are heaps of books that remind me of the summer (THE BEST SEASON 🙂 ). However, Open Road Summer really reminds me of this song because the book has this amazing summer vibe! Not only that but the song is about keeping a secret and isn’t that pretty much what Open Road Summer is about keeping their relationship secret? If you haven’t read this book I totally recommend it! Open Road Summer is a perfect summer read for the holidays!
I Don’t Like It I Love It by Florida, Robin Thicke ❤ The Dark Elements by Jennifer L. Armentrout This song has this super fun vibe that always makes me happy whenever I am sad. Since the song came out, every time someone has hit the play button on this song I will immediately get up and jam out! For this song, I decided to choose a fun book I have recently read and that was Every Last Breath, the last book in the Dark Elements Trilogy. Any Jennifer L. Armentrout book even though they are fantasy, the character always have a happy and fun mood and they are a great joy ride to read! Just like this song, every time someone mentions a Jennifer L. Armentrout book I will immediately smile with the memories of reading the book!
Bad Blood by Taylor Swift ❤ L.A Candy Series by Lauren Conrad
Another recent read, I just finished the last two books of this series after looking for them everywhere. If you have read this book there’s a lot of backstabbing and bad-blood between the main characters and because the song is about bad-blood between friends this series certainly suits the song’s story. The whole song is about trusting someone and then losing their trust which is pretty much the L.A Candy series in a bubble. Even though, the book is “childlishly gossip-girl” it was pretty addicting! #guiltypleasure
Powerful by Ellie Goulding ❤ Lux Series
This song is pretty much the relationship of every book ship in every novel but Katy and Daemon definitely remind me of this song! Katy and Daemon’s relationship was developed so well throughout the novel, that every single time Katy and Daemon saw each other you could see the “powerful” electricity between them!
You Know You Like It by Aluna George ❤ Vampire Academy
Or pretty much any novel that has forbidden love but Vampire Academy’s forbidden love with Rose and Dimitri pretty much is this song. Dimitri “is scared of the shame” because of his social hierarchy but his love for Rose is driving him “insane”. I love this song and I love this book! What a great pairing!
