Yes, I know, I’ve missed about two weeks worth of book news. Today, I’ll be giving you a major book news post, informing you guys on any information you’ve missed out in the young-adult bookosphere!!! I’ll start with the Shadow hunters TV Show and other Mortal Instruments TV Show!
The first episode is nearly finished and heaps of photos of the cast and set have been posted all over the actors’/actress’ Instagram and Twitter. Since the legalization of same-sex marriage in America (Yay! for that), the Mortal Instruments fandom bursted into a flurry of excitement for Malec scenes but Cassandra Clare kept herself hush hush and instead announced that Helen and Aline will have a wedding in the coming Tales of the Shadowhunter Academy series. You can check out a snippet for that here! Recently the latest novel of the Shadowhunter Academy series came out- The Evil We Love! If you loved Sizzy, you must definitely check this novel out!
So last week all the new covers for The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices were released and I’m here to talk about my thoughts about these covers. They will, unfortunately, only be available in America :(. I know we are all internally crying but nevertheless I am still writing my thoughts about the covers but I’ll also write my thoughts on the new UK covers. I would love to read your thoughts about the covers in the comments below!
So first of all for all those who don’t know the covers in the photo above are the front covers of The Infernal Devices. Here are the photos of the spines and covers of the Mortal Instruments
Despite my previous post on these covers, where I pretty much full on ranted on about how bad the City of Bones covers was, after seeing the whole set it actually isn’t as bad as I was expecting. Yes, there may be still times where I think it looks to much like fan art but that kind of brings out this authenticity to the the covers. I think out of all the Mortal Instruments covers City of Ashes is might favorite. I also really like the color scheme as it is eye catching and give off this dark mood, which is what the series is like. I much prefer these covers as the old covers seemed really old fashion, especially with the real people on the front. With these covers they are a lot more modernised and eye-catching. I also don’t like the “ABC Family” stickers but I guess we can’t avoid that- for marketing reasons.
I wonder if the covers will be soft or glossy because the covers will look much better on a soft cover as the photo is a mellow drawing and it would look much better soft than reflective- on a glossy cover. A lot of new covers are adopting the spin concept- where when you put all the spines togethqer it will create a beautiful photo and I think that was a great idea to integrate it into these covers. The spines look amazing when placed together, my favorite is the Infernal Devices one as it looks like an abstract art of the Blackfriars Bridge. The Mortal Instruments spine also looks really cool together as each book has a certain character on it.
On to the UK Covers, which look stunning and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I think I will buy the new UK Covers because they literally look like abstract art that deserves to be on Tumblr. I am so proud of it and I can’t wait to see a real-life copy of the cover. It looks vintage as the abstract art inside each shape on the cover looks like a piece of art in church. I think it was a really smart idea to do the abstract art with angels inside as it is based around angels and is also based on lots of angelic history and the covers really convey the main message of the book. I love how in every corner in the book there is an angelic rune because it keeps the cover uniform. I also love how each cover has it’s own shape- City of Bones is a sun and City of Glass is a rose. It also has a really eye-catching color scheme because the previous covers were really “Old-fashion” and I think with these covers it will definitely attract more readers. I am really happy with the UK covers.
I honestly can’t wait for these covers to come out in September this year. I will definitely be buying the UK ones or maybe the US ones- I can’t choose! I seriously am so excited that they decided to revamp the covers because they seriously needed new blood in this series in order to attract new readers!
Sorry for not posting last week’s book news, I just wanted to take a break for a while! So this weekend and last weekend on book news, Cassandra Clare released the new covers for all The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices, which I will be writing a #mythoughtson as well as the new cover for the second installment in The Iron Trial series, The Copper Gauntlet. I still haven’t read these novels yet but I really want to!
More on Cassandra Clare novels, there have been many new behind the scenes stills to the Mortal Instruments TV Show which has caused a large spark of excitement among fans of the series. Includi Ling me!!! A new snippet for the next book in The Shadowhunter Academy Novella series has been released and you can check that out here!
Cover reveals for the next book in Miss Peregrine’s Home For Perculiar Children has been released. It will be called “Library of Souls” and as the name already suggests the cover for the new book is certainly haunting. The new cover for Lauren’s Kate Unforgiven which is the next book in the Fallen series has been released. I haven’t read this series either but after reading a few thoughts about this upcoming book it seems like she is really milking off of this series.
An Ember in The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir is a debut Young-Adult novel which has skyrocketed in terms of popularity and it is official- there will be a sequel.
As for my blog this week, I will be writing a combined review of the first two books in Wendy Higgins’ Sweet Evil Trilogy. I am currently reading the last book- Sweet Reckoning. I may write a review for Half Bad by Sally Green which I have finished soon in the future. This week, I’ll also be writing up my post about the Love/Hate tag which I was tagged by A New Food Blog. Her blog is great- I really recommend it. It’s filled with recipes and books! 🙂 I will also be writing up my thoughts on the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices covers!
This is another Liebster Award and I was nominated by Analee from Book Snacks. She is one of the nicest bloggers and I highly recommend her blog. She posts book reviews and other fun book stuff. Go check her out! This Liebster Award is a bit different to the normal one. I’ll be answering 11 questions, sharing 11 facts and I’ll be nominating and writing 11 even questions for 11 other bloggers! For this award I nominate anyone who want to do this award.
What is your favourite book-to-film adaptation OR what is a book/series you would like to see as a movie? I loved The Fault In Our Stars because I think it really stayed true the book and I loved Vampire Academy! I think if you loved the Vampire Academy series you would love the movie but if you haven’t read it the movie won’t be as appealing.
If you could jump into any bookish world, where would it be? Why? This is a really hard question because I think about it all the time but every time I have a different answer. Lately, I have been thinking about the Shadowhunter-world and I think that it would be a great bookish world to jump into. Who wouldn’t want to be a Shadowhunter?:)
Who is your favourite author and why? (You can name more than one if you want.) I don’t really have a specific favorite author but I love Jennifer L. Armentrout books, so i guess you could say she is my favorite. I love her storylines as they are cheesy yet action-filled and witty. Cassandra Clare is also high up on my list of favorite authors as I love any of the Shadowhunter Chronicle novels, which were one of the first Young-Adult novels which I have read.
What is your most prized book? I like to think that all of my books are prized possessions but one of my most special novels on my bookshelf is definitely Percy Jackson and The Greek Gods. The cover is so beautifully designed and it’s hardback. It is no surprise that it is one of my most prized books.
What character from a book would you like to meet, and why?
This is a really hard question… but if I could meet a character I think meeting Daemon (Lux Saga) would be amazing but I would love to meet Patch (Hush Hush Saga) and Will (The Infernal Devices). If I ever got to meet them I would probably faint! 🙂
What is/are your favourite quote(s)? I actually have a post about this here! But I am planning on writing an updated one of these posts because I love quotes. My all time favorite quotes are: ” There is plenty of sense in nonsense sometimes, if you wish to look for it, ” ~Cassandra Clare “Thomas Edison’s last words were, “It’s very beautiful over there,” I don’t know where there is but I believe it’s somewhere and I hope it’s beautiful” ~ John Green
What quality do you appreciate in a character? Persistence, loyalty, courage and confidence. I believe these are really important qualities in life and I love it when characters are so brave, persistent and confidence. For example, Rose(Vampire Academy) who I really look up to is so brave no matter what even if her loved ones are evil, she would do whatever she can to save them.
What are three books you can’t live without? This is another tricky questions because I love so many books but I think three books I couldn’t live without are Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare, Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Mark of Athena by Rick Riodan.
What places would you like to visit and why? I think I have answered a question like this before but I would love to backpack around Europe. This has always been my dream. I want to backpack with someone all around Europe without a particular destination, to just wander the streets of London, swim in the seas of Greece and eat authentic Italian food.
Who is someone you consider a hero? There are many young-adult heroines who I consider as a hero. Tris Prior (Divergent) is someone I really look up to because of her selflessness. I want to be as loyal as she is to her family and friends. Rose Hathaway (Vampire Academy) is someone I have considered a series since I’ve read the series because I love how feminine yet strong she is. She isn’t a really unfeminine heroine but she is still capable of so many things. Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson) is someone I have always respected since I read the series when I was really young.
What do you think are your best qualities? Ummmm 🙂 I think one of my best qualities is my positivity and kindness. I have grown up in an era where teenagers are really submerged in positive things (tumblr and youtube) and I have always tried to make light of dark situations. I always want to help people because I think a small smile can light someone’s day so I always try to be happy because it really rubs off on people.
My Eleven Questions:
1) What is a novel you recommend to people who are not into young-adult novels?
2) Who is an evil character you somehow love?
3) What is a novel you thought you would hate but ended up loving?
4) What is an overhyped novel you do not like?
5) If you could live the life of a character for a day, who would you chose?
6) What is your favorite contemporary novel?
7) What is your most anticipated novel of 2015?
8) Do you prefer bookstores or libraries?
9) What are you currently reading and what do you plan on reading next?
10) What is an object you need by your side when you are reading?
That’s all for this award and as I said before I nominate anyone who wants to do this award! Thank you!
Lots of exciting things have happened especially to the Mortal Instruments fandom. One of the most exciting things is that production of the tv show will begin in Vancouver, May 2015 and not only that but casting call have been put out and you can check that our here: https://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/tlg/4917063533.html! I am soooooo excited but to be frank with you I read the descriptions of the character and they were close but not exactly what I was thinking of. For example, Clary is 18 where as in the book she is 16.
Also two new snippets of Cassandra Clare’s upcoming books have been released. The first one is of Cassandra Clare’s and Robin Wasserman’s new book, The Lost Herondale, for the Shadow Hunter Academy novella series:
“Demons and warlocks can’t help what they are,” Balogh said darkly. “Shadowhunters are held to a higher standard. The deaths of those three men sit squarely on the shoulders of Tobias Herondale. And he would have been punished in kind, had he ever been foolish enough to show his face again. He never did, but debts need repaying. A trial was held in absentia. He was judged guilty, and punishment was carried out.”
“But I thought you said he never came back?” Julie said. “Indeed. So the punishment was carried out on his wife, in his stead.” “His pregnant wife?” Marisol said, looking like she was about to be sick.
“Sed lex, dura lex,” Balogh said. The Latin phrase had been hammered into them from the first day at the Academy, and Simon was coming to hate the sound of it—so often was it used as an excuse for acting like monsters. Balogh steepled his fingers and contemplated the classroom, watching in satisfaction as his message came clear. This was how the Clave treated cowardice on the battlefield; this was justice under the Covenant. “The Law is hard,” Balogh translated for the hushed students. “But it is the Law.”
Also a new snippet for Lady Midnight was released: “Let me tell you a truth before you die, Emma,” said the voice. “It is a secret about the Nephilim. They hate love, human love, because they were born of angels. And while God charged his angels to take care of humans, the angels were made first, and they have always hated God’s second creation. That is why Lucifer fell. He was an angel who would not bow to mankind, God’s favored child. Love is the weakness of human beings, and the Angels despise them for it, and the Clave despises it too, and therefore they punish it. Do you know what happens to parabatai who fall in love? Do you know why it’s forbidden?”
I totally ship Emma and Julian and I honestly can’t wait for it. I was really upset to find out that the release date was being pushed back but at least, that means that she will put more time and effort into the new series.
I am also highly ecstatic about a new YA Anthology called Summer Days & Summer Nights: Twelve Love Stories. It will be released in summer 2016 and it is exactly like My True Love Gave To Me. It will include the following authors:
Francesca Lia Block
Jennifer E. Smith
OMG I am freaking out about this book. Hopefully, it will live up to standards or be even better than My True Love Gave To Me!
The new UK covers for The Mortal Instruments are here and honestly it is a hundred time better than the new American ones and the old ones it is so beautiful:
They look so intricately designed and I loved how much effort and detail were put into these covers!
Also the final Insurgent trailer was released and the movie is coming out in 12 days! Now for the final piece of news. The new cover for the second book in The Young Elites series was released and it will be called the Rose Society.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s segment of book news.
