Top 5 Most Anticipated Releases for 2016

2016 is here and honestly, I am blown away! 2015 zoomed past us right before our eyes and it’s like a new revelation. With a new year, comes a fresh start and new opportunities. Not only that but it also means that we are getting closer to the releases of so many new novels. Many new series debuted their first novel and in 2016, will finish or continue with the releases of the next books in the series! I’m sure many of you will be excited for the launch of some books but here are my five most anticipated reads for 2015:

  1. Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (The Dark Artifices)
Lady Midnight is one of most anticipated reads that have been floating around. After the conclusion of The Mortal Instruments, I know I have been itching to read anything else about the Shadowhunters world. Even though, we won’t see the old characters, I’m excited to start this fresh new series that will get me marking every release date of the series, in my calendar.
  2. A Sword Of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses was extremely popular this year and it honestly did live up to its hype, as I loved it! It isn’t a surprise that I am highly awaiting the next book in the series!
  3. The Rose and The Dagger by Renee Ahdieh
If you have read my previous post on the first book in this series, The Wrath and The Dawn, you would know that it was a page-turning and thrilling read. I can’t wait to see what will be in store for the next book, The Rose and The Dagger!
  4. The Problem WIth Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Yes, another Jennifer L. Armentrout! *que the squealing 🙂 * Sadly it won’t be a Dark Elements nor a Lux novel but it is a contemporary. The Problem With Forever is a contemporary, which will be new. I enjoyed Don’t Look Back but that was more mystery than contemporary. I’m excited to see how Jennifer L. Armentrout’s contemporary writing!
  5. The Last Star by Rick Yancey
I have been a big fan of the 5th Wave series and this will unfortunately be the last novel in the trilogy! I’m super excited for the movie as Chloe Grace Moretz and the rest of the cast seem fitting for this book. I love these novels and I can’t wait to read this much anticipated novel!

Which books are you looking forward to reading next year?

12 Days Of Christmas Book Tag

Sadly, Christmas is ending but before it completely comes to a close, I was tagged by Calliope at The Book Goddess! You should definitely check out her blog because she is the sweetest person and her posts are great! (Thank you so much for tagging me, Calliope). For this tag you have to match a book or series to one of the lines in the famous Christmas carol, “12 Days of Christmas” and then I must tag five other book bloggers. Let’s begin with the first line:

“On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me- a Partridge in a pear tree.”
The Partridge stood alone in the pear tree, what is your favourite stand-alone:
This is extremely hard because, I have so many favourites! However, one of my most favourite stand-alone is All The Bright Places by Jennifer Nirven!

“On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- two turtle doves,”
Love is in the air, who is your one true pairing?
At the moment, I am currently re-reading Lux. It isn’t a surprise my one true pairing at the moment is… Kat and Daemon from the Lux Saga by Jennifer L. Armentrout!

“On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- three French hens,”
In the spirit of threes, what is your favourite trilogy?
I love trilogies because they tend to not drag along and are usually written so well but my favourite trilogy, without a doubt will have to be The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare!

“On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- four calling birds,”
Series usually consists of four or more books, what is your favourite series?
You mean a series other than Lux? Hahaha, just joking! Other than Lux my favourite series would have to be Heroes of Olympus or maybe The Mortal Instruments! I can’t decide!
“On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- five golden rings,”
One ring to rule them all, who is your favourite villain/antagonist?

I tend to hate all villains, but I do love Khalid in Wrath and The Dawn. Despite the fact that he is confusingly a “good guy”, he is also partly a villain and he is my favourite villain

“On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- six geese a laying,”
Creation is a beautiful thing, what is your favourite world?
The Darkest Minds, has such an intricate world and even if I haven’t finished the series yet, I love how much detail Alexandra Bracken put into this book!

“On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- seven swans a swimming,”
Who needs seven swans when it only takes one animal to make a great sidekick, Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?
Does Grover count as an animal sidekick? Grover from The Percy Jackson and The Olympians series is one of the first animal sidekicks that pop into my head!

“On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- eight maids a milking,”
Milk is so 18th century, which books or series take food to a whole new level?
This is such a weird one, I haven’t read a book that solely focussed on food but I’ll choose a novel which includes a food in the title- L.A Candy!

“On the ninth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- nine ladies dancing,”
These ladies must be great at dancing, who is your favourite female lead?
Rose Hathaway from The Vampire Academy series will always be one of my favourite female leads because as I have mentioned many times before, Rose is so loyal and courageous and I honestly look up to her!

“On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- ten lords a leaping,”
How about your favourite leading lord (male)?
Now, this is getting way too hard! My favourite leading male would have to be Daemon Black and Will Herondale. I don’t really think an explanation is needed, if you have read the two series that they are from but if you haven’t I can tell you now that they are both descriptions of perfect boys! 🙂

“On the eleventh day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- eleven pipes pipping,”
What is your favourite book, with a major musical influence?
Toxic by Rachel Van Dyken has a music theme within the novel and despite, the bad writing the story within it had a sad storyline and I really enjoyed reading this novel!

“On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me- twelve drummers drumming,”
Drum roll please, what is your favourite read this year?
Please don’t make me choose!!!! 🙂 However, I did just finish Oblivion a few days ago and can I get a “Hallelujah!” for this novel because I absolutely loved it!
Here are the five bloggers I nominate:
L.A Book Dreamer
The Ambivert 123
A Fangirl’s Opinion
Books and Cleverness
Sunshine Craver

Thanks guys! That’s all for the tag! I hope you all had a great Christmas and have a great new year!

5 Tips To Get Out Of Your Reading Slump

Have you ever been stuck in a reading slump? Most bookies have gone through at least one or maybe even more reading slumps. They seriously can be a pain and a big worry because during this moment most of us question, “WILL I EVER READ A BOOK AGAIN?” Don’t fear because today I have five tips, I’ve used before, to get out of your reading slump 🙂 This post was inspired by my friend over at Artemis Skadi!

Just on a side note, sorry for not posting all weekend! I was out at a place where the wifi didn’t roam:) ! You will definitely be seeing more posts coming soon!

1. Get Inspired!
Watching other people’s excitement over books, will definitely rub off on you! Watch some booktube ( I recommend: Polandbananabooks) and their over-enthusiasm will inspire you to hop back onto the train of reading, again! You can also watch your best-friend get excited about reading a new series, which can also inspire you to read a series which will get you fangirling for days!
tumblr_mgzyn4Iq7B1rn6aydo2_250 2. Read a hooking series!
Maybe you have been reading too many stand-alone contemporaries or fantasies, which is causing you no new anticipation for the sequels! Find a series which isn’t a contemporary and will cause you to be submerged into a whole new mythical world. That will definitely get you up and kicking for the series. With more books in a series, there are more cliff hangers which will keep you reading and reading for days! Find a series which has heaps of lovers and that way you can fangirl with them! I recommend a Jennifer L. Armentrout series, The Mortal Instruments or Vampire Academy!
tumblr_lmayp5yjCf1qafrh63. Find some time to force your self to read!
Self-discipline is key (I never thought I would ever say that 🙂 )! Find a good two or three hours, without any distractions on your mind (like un-finished homework and chores) and force yourself to read a new hooking book. You don’t have to read a whole book, just enough of the book to get your reading spark up and running!
tumblr_ms7gvq1iqF1sxv3djo1_5004. Drop the book!
Maybe the book you are currently reading is too boring or just not your type but you really want to finish it! Just drop the book and pick it up when you are in a really good reading mood but not during a reading slump. When you want to get through a reading slump pick up the first novel of a fresh new series!tumblr_m8kc1q2HVn1rzq300o1_500

5. Read Extras or Re-read Your Favorite Moments!
I know many authors who post short stories of their series post or before the actual series took place! On Cassandra Clare, Jennifer L. Armentrout and Richelle Mead’s websites you can find short stories of the characters they have created. Find extras of your favorite series and re-read them to remind you how much you loved reading their series! You can also re-read your favorite moments in the actual published books!

These are my top 5 tips to get out of your reading slump and I hope I have helped get you out of your reading slump!

Review: Don’t Look Back by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Don’t Look Back
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Release Date: April 15th, 2014
Retail Price: $16.99
Overall Rating: 8/10
Genre: Contemporary, Mystery, Thriller, Crime, Romance

This is another Jennifer L. Armentrout book… what a surprise! Don’t worry it is going to be one of the last ones for a while. This was different to the normal Jennifer L. Armentrout and it was definitely much more well written than the normal fantasy novels. Don’t Look Back is a unique, stand-alone mystery with a huge twist at the end. It isn’t a novel where you fall in love with the characters and world, it is more of a confronting and haunting novel. I highly recommend it if you loved Paper Towns, Mara Dyer and We Were Liars.

It follows the story of Samantha Franco who one day goes mysteriously missing with her best friend, Cassie. Suddenly, Samantha appears but she has lost all her memories and Cassie isn’t there with her. As she tries desperately to find out what happened that night of her disappearance, she only discovers a note that says, “Don’t look back. You won’t like what you find.”

I really liked this novel as it was different from the normal contemporaries and thriller, I have read before. I loved how we saw the story unravel through Samantha’s point of view because I think Jennifer L. Armentrout really captured the thoughts and frustration she would of been going through after the accident.

We start when Samantha Franco mysteriously stumbles in to town after her recent disappearance with her best friend Cassie. It started off with an ambiguous yet catching scene where she is completely blank and from there we meet her family. We discover that she came from a rich background and her parents are not on complete terms with each other and her brother is very protective of her. At this point, I was desperate to discover what happened on the night of the accident.

We then see Samantha going to school where she meets her friendship and her “serious” boyfriend. I love to see how the new Sam reflects on her old self and discovers that she was actually a mean, controlling and arrogant girl. She doesn’t want to be that kind of person again and, as she is offered this “new life”, she can amend her mistakes. This is one of the main themes that is explored in this novel and really makes the novel a lot more enjoying and relatable. It adds a lot of drama. Especially, when she tries to make that sudden change from being mean to nice.

I shipped Carson and Samantha. I loved to see their relationship develop while Samantha had extensive character development. It added a nice extra plot to the storyline. I couldn’t put the book down because I needed to know what happened to Cassie and on the night.

At first when she thought it was Carson, my heart broke. I did not expect it to be Carson and the motive seemed right. I was so shocked! I did not expect that but then it turned out it wasn’t Carson and it was , in fact, her father. It was bombshell after bombshell. I really liked her father because he actually treated her like she was sane. In the end, he was the cold-blooded killer. Originally, I didn’t like her mother because she was so superficial. I really wanted to strangle her but she became more accepting of her completely different daughter and that was really good.

Overall, it was a fun read and I am glad it is a stand-alone book. Jennifer L. Armentrout blew me away, once again. I couldn’t put this book down and I highly recommend it for mystery enthusiasts!

Book News- 19/04/15

Lots of exciting things have happened this week! First of all, the MTV movie awards were on and The Fault In Our Stars won a dozen awards. It won movie of the year and Shailene Woodley, who plays the main role of Hazel Lancaster, also won many awards due to her role in this film.

Jennifer L. Armentrout has released that she will be writing a free book for everyone to read on Wattpad: It is a Young-Adult Romantic Suspense. It is just for a little fun! I don’t know about you guys but I’ll be following this story!

The covers for the next books in the Welcome to the Shadowhunter Academy was released. They will be called The Whitechapel Fiend and Nothing But Shadows. A snippet has also been released for the new TLH:

“Who’s the boy tripping over his own feet?” Cordelia asked as the boy in question, a slender, ink-stained young man with spectacles and tousled brown curls, nearly careened into Lucie and Matthew.

“That’s Christopher Lightwood. My cousin. Alas, Christopher is far more at home with beakers and test tubes than he is with female company. Let’s just hope he doesn’t pitch poor Rosamund Townsend into the refreshment table.”

“Is he in love with her?”

“Lord, no, barely knows her,” said James. “Charles and Daphne are engaged, and  Barbara Lightwood has an understanding with George Hayward. Beyond that, I’m not sure I can think of any romances brewing in our set. Though having you and Alastair here might bring us some excitement, Daisy.”

Her heart leaped. “I didn’t realize you remembered that old nickname.”

“What, Daisy?” He was holding her close as they danced: she could feel the heat of him all up and down her front, making her prickle all over. “Of course I remember it. I gave it to you. I hope you don’t intend me to stop using it.”

“Of course not. I like it.” She forced herself not to move her gaze from his. Goodness, his eyes were startling up close. They were the color of golden syrup, almost shocking against the black of his pupils. She had heard the whispers, knew people found his eyes odd and alien, a sign of his difference. She thought they were lovely: the color of fire and gold, the way she imagined the heart of the sun. “Though I don’t think it suits me. Daisy sounds like a pretty little girl in hair ribbons.”

“Well,” he said. “You are at least –”

He broke off. She heard the click as he swallowed: he was looking past her, at someone who had just come into the room. Cordelia followed his glance, and saw a tall woman, thin as a scarecrow and dressed in the black of mourning, with gray-streaked auburn hair done in the style of decades ago piled on her head. Tessa was hurrying toward her, a concerned look on her face. Will was following, and goodness, what did they both look so worried about?

As Tessa reached her, the woman stepped aside, revealing the girl who had been standing behind her. A girl, dressed all in ivory, with a soft waterfall of white-gold curls gathered back from her face. The girl moved forward gracefully to greet Tessa and Will, and as she did so, James dropped Cordelia’s hands.

They were no longer dancing. Cordelia stood, frozen in confusion, as James turned away from her without a word and strode across the room toward the girl.

That’s all this week on Book News guys!

Stone Cold Touch

Title: Stone Cold Touch
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: The Dark Elements
Release Date: 21st October, 2014
Retail Price: $16.99
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Genre: Fantasy, Myths, Legends, Urban Mythology, Romance, Action, Thriller, Mystery

The second book of Jennifer L. Armentrout’s The Dark Elements blew me away and is now one of my favorite series. It left me with a hole in my heart and I desperately need Every Last Breath. I absolutely loved reading this and it was so much fun to read. It was humorous, heart-wrenching and twist turning. If you haven’t read this series, you need to read it because it is so good!

Since this is the second book in the series, we continue off from the first book. Layla is not torn between two races, the wardens and demons. Layla is still broken from the loss of Roth and Zayne starts to get closer. Out of the blue, Roth returns but he becomes awfully distant. Meanwhile, as the Lilin is slowly rising, Layla, Zayne and Roth need to stop and hunt her down before everything else gets out of control.

UGHHHH! The pain of this book is killing me! I can’t explain how much fun I’ve had reading this. I loved everything! It was so good. I was so glad that Roth came back early in the chapter because I don’t think a Dark Elements book would be a Dark Elements book without Roth, who is now one of my favorite fictional characters.

In the beginning, I was kind of hesitant about Zayne because how could Layla do this to Roth, when he was in the fiery pits. Then I was shipping them and my head was split in two. I couldn’t decide but by the end I was totally on team Roth.

This book was filled with twists and turns. I originally was so mad a Roth for pushing Layla away and I was torn between the two ships. I was like:
Until the end, when Roth was saving Layla and just before she falls asleep we find out that Roth actually loves her. I was so confused then when we discover that Abott threatened Roth and literally I was so shocked. I couldn’t comprehend. It all made sense and I was so excited. It reminded me of the whole Will and Tessa thing. Roth is so amazing!!! That is why I am totally Team Roth:
You could tell from the beginning that Sam was the Lilin because he was acting so weird, since they started the search. I was reading this book non-stop because there was so much action. One moment we are fighting demons and the next moment Layla is sucking out souls! It was very fast which I enjoy in a novel. I was nearly in tears when I discovered that Zayne had his soul sucked out. I wonder what the witches will want in return, in the next book after Roth asked for that concoction.

Overall, it was such a fun book to read and I can’t wait for the next book, Every Last Breathe. I am totally team Roth and I hope that she chooses him!

White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout: Review

Title: White Hot Kiss
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: The Dark Elements
Release Date: 25th February, 2014
Retail Price: $16.99
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Genre: Fantasy, Myths, Legends, Urban Mythology, Romance, Action, Thriller, Mystery

Lux was amazing and White Hot Kiss did not disappoint at all! Jennifer L. Armentrout pulled an ace out of a deck, I am super stoked to read the rest of the series. Don’t be fooled by the title or the cover because I’m telling you this book is amazing. If you loved Lux, trust me, this book will not let you down. I have been reading a lot of contemporary, as you can tell by my previous posts, but I’ve been missing all the action, romance and fantasy sagas. I heard from others that her other series were good and so I picked up The Dark Elements. It is like the Mortal Instruments meets Hush Hush and Lux!

White Hot Kiss follows the story of seventeen-year old Layla, who is half-demon, half gargoyle. She was raised by the gargoyles and has been told multiple times that demons are horrible creatures and should be killed. She was trained by Zayne, who Layla has been crushing on for a long time. One day, she meets a Demon, Roth, who mysteriously saves her and claims that he knows everything about her. Layla then discovers fragments of her history and as she pieces together, she becomes torn between two boys and two completely different worlds!

I have three words: ZAYNE! ROTH! WHY?? I absolutely loved this novel and after reading this, I noticed how much I actually missed reading witty, adventure and fantasy novels. It is nothing like Lux, yet it was mind-blowingly good. At the start, we read about Layla getting attacked by a demon but then Roth mysteriously comes in and saves her. We then meet Zayne, who is such a lovable character. He was so nice, loving and protective but I am still wondering if Zayne actually loves Layla or if he only loves Layla in a brotherly way. I don’t know if I’m the only one who thought this but I was expecting Zayne to say I only love you like a sister to Layla.

Oh My God! Roth is honestly goals, I want to compare him to Daemon, from Lux, but he is nothing like Daemon. Roth is totally different but I still love his character. He is witty, sarcastic and so protective. You can easily see the differences between Roth and Zayne but they are both still amazing. When we discover that Roth is in the same class as Layla, I was expecting him to do something Daemon-like, such as, poking Layla with a pen or dipping his table down to talk to her but that never happened. I love Roth’s sense of humor. He was so protective of Layla. He is just perfect.

Zayne is also a lovable character. He was so nice Layla and you could tell how much he cared for her. I loved how Zayne and Layla had that tree-house. I was imagining that whole High-School Musical thing when Troy takes Gabriella to his Tree-House. That is why I am pretty much torn between Team Roth and Team Zayne, but maybe because I feel sorry for Roth I’m leaning towards him, but I believe that both are good for Layla. Layla is such as strong character. Yes, there are some times where she can be slightly whiny but I can totally relate to her. When she cries, its not in an annoying manner, its usually for a valid reason. I love how she doesn’t want to hide behind the boy’s back she wants to jump out and help. She is very much like a Rose (from Vampire Academy) but because she is not as experienced, she still makes mistakes, like when she sucked the soul out of Petr (I can’t even pronounce that name 🙂 ). I really like her character, it is unlike the usual weak heroines.

I loved the world building, it was easy to comprehend and it didn’t take that much memorising. Finding out that Lilith and Elijah were Layla’s parents was a huge shock. I did not see that coming. Abbot had that over-protective vibe but I didn’t really like him, for obvious reasons. But really what hit me was Roth’s sacrifice. I had no clue whatsoever that Roth was going to go to that fiery pit and it all made sense when the seer was like Roth will be in that fiery pit. Oh My God! I desperately need the next book because Roth!! The Feels!! Honestly, I need Roth and I am hoping that he will come back in the next book.

Overall, I had so much fun laughing out loud, screaming out loud and having my heart seized. I loved everything and I am so glad I picked up this book!
