It’s Christmas time, and the first thoughts which conjure up in my mind are hollies, Christmas trees, snow, family and love. Lyla Payne’s Mistletoe & Mr Right, a collection of two holiday stories, made my heart flip, put me in the Christmas spirit as well as dragged me out of my reading slump. This romance novel definitely conjured up vivid images of Christmas, which is one of the reasons why I highly enjoyed reading it. Once I saw the novel, without any hesitation I picked up the novel and delved straight in! The two short stories, are a perfect read before bed to keep you happy or whilst your rugging up with a mug of hot chocolate. I absolutely loved these two novels and it really made me realise how much I missed reading!

The first story in this novel is Mistletoe & Mr Right. The main character, Jessica, has had a sturdy relationship with Brennan. Brennan ticks all of Jessica’s boxes and she believes that Brennan will give her a good future and completes her plans for the future. However, something is off about their relationship and Jessica can’t really seem to put her finger on it. It’s Christmas and Jessica wants to try to steer the plane of their relationship back on track, so she travels to Scotland to surprise her boyfriend but problems arise. A new charming boy falls into the picture and Jessica doesn’t know where her heart lies anymore.

The second story is titled, Sleigh Bells and Second Chances. This story revolves around Christina (Jessica’s Best Friend and Roommate), who has been offered a job as a manager for a famous boy band, in London for Christmas. For Christina, London is a bad place for her; her neglecting father lives there and her ex-boyfriend, who she used to love. Her ex-boyfriend, Cary is one of the band members she manages. Unable to escape, Christina has to face both her father and Cary and she soon discovers that things are not as bad as they seem and maybe she still loves Cary.

Reading this novel was a joyride, I absolutely loved following these cute romantic tales of Christmas love and being the major chic-flic lover I am, it was really like watching a chic-flic movie in a novel. I can’t choose which one was my favourite but I am teetering towards Mistletoe & Mr Right. After finishing the novel, I’ll admit that I had a book hangover because the novel was just so cute and the stories were too short. The novel was similar to Rachel Van Dyken’s Ruin trilogy, which was three stories about roommates and friends who all had their stories intertwined. I was so glad to find out that we still had cameos of Jessica and Grady in the second story because I honestly couldn’t bear to part with them.

First of all, let’s talk about the first novel Mistletoe and Mr Right. This was my favourite story by a sliver because Jessica, the main character, was more relatable than Christina. Not only that but the romance in this story was a touch more cute than in Sleighbells and Second Chances, which was pretty much just your simple “playing hard to get” story. Mistletoe and Mr Right definitely had a lot more twists and turns and I didn’t know if I should choose between Team Brennan or Team Grady.

Jessica was trying to make amends with her boyfriend and the fact that she went to Scotland to try and surprise Brennan, exhibited how serious she was about him. However, the way Brennan’s family treated her frustrated both Jessica and the reader. The way Jessica reacted was exactly how I would have reacted, she tried so hard to satisfy Brennan’s family but it didn’t seem to work. Grady, was perfect, and seemed to be the only one, other than Brenna, who treated Jessica like a human. The dry, sarcastic humor between the two made me smile. Both Brennan and Grady seemed like great guys until Katie stepped into the picture, then the drama began. I loved reading about the tension between all the characters and I couldn’t put down the novel.

Towards the end, we discover that Katie had previously carried Brennan’s child and that was when I knew that I was definitely team Grady. I felt so much sympathy for Jessica because I knew she definitely wouldn’t enjoy that. However, she coped with it so well. The ending was a near-perfect fairytale ending because despite the fact that Brennan was no longer with Jessica, she had Grady and they were honestly the perfect couple.

Now onto the second novel, Sleigh Bells and Second Chances. I really liked this story because I was page turning to discover what would happen to Christina and Cary’s relationship. My heart was racing when the media was catching up to them but I kind of assumed they would get together, but I knew there would be lots of drama on the way. I enjoyed the fact that the novel didn’t solely focus on their relationship, there was also the problem with Christina’s father and throughout the novel there was a lot of character development from the angered, closed-off, pessimistic Christina to a brighter Christina.

I loved reading about the history between Christina and Cary’s relationship because it was too cute! I was so surprised that Cary had that agreement with Christina’s father but every story has to have there climatic point! Despite that, the ending was the cutest ending. I love how Cary did the charity kiss with Christina and the story couldn’t have ended any better.

Overall, I absolutely loved this novel and I highly recommend it for Christmas! It was the perfect amount of cute and Christmas!

I hope you had a great Christmas!

🎄Christmas TBR List🎄

Happy Christmas, Everyone!!!!!

Since Christmas is coming soon, I compiled a short TBR list of books I’m going to try and read this holiday! I never end up following my TBR list (Does anyone else?) as I usually stray and somehow find another book that I want to read but here are some books I am going to try a read this holiday!

  1. Mistletoe & Mr Right by Lyla Payne
A cute Christmas contemporary to put me in the perfect Christmas mood! Mistletoe & Mr Right is a compilation of two short Christmas romances written by Lyla Payne! The first one is called Mistletoe and Mr Right and the second one is called Sleighbells and Second Chances. The minute this book arrived on my doorstep, I couldn’t help myself and I delved straight in because I was looking for a cute romance. I’m halfway through the first story and it is honestly so cute! It has definitely put me in the Christmas joy! I’ll save my thoughts for the review!
  2. How To Be Bad by E.Lockhart, Sarah Mylnowski & Lauren Myracle
To be honest, I am not a big fan of co-written novels as they often are choppy and never flow through a smooth progression but I decided to give this novel a go! It is about three teenage girls who leave their mundane town for a temporary “break”. I loved We Were Liars by E. Lockhart and the summary of this novel definitely intrigued me. Hopefully, it will be unique and different but I am definitely excited to start this novel.
  3. Oblivion by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Hello??? Daemon goodness in one book filled with over 1000 pages, I would probably be the first to sign up :)! I just downloaded the book, I know I’m 14 days late but I’ve been savouring and saving it for the perfect day! If you didn’t know already, Oblivion is a novella to the Lux series and its pretty much a compiled story of the whole Lux series written in Daemon’s point of view!
  4. The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley
I recently got this series sent to me and I am pretty excited to start it! It’s based around seven sisters who are all adopted. One day their father dies and Maia, the oldest one, finds clues which will lead her to her past. I’ll definitely write a review on this novel! I’ve already started the first few chapters and its really enjoyable! If you have read this novel tell me your thoughts below!
  5. None Of The Above by I.W. Gregorio
None Of The Above is a powerful contemporary novel which recently came out. It’s unique storyline has captured readers. I’ve heard lots of little chit chat about this novel and when it turned up displayed in the library with it’s eye-catching title, I decided to pick it up!

I definitely need to start my reading pace back up again, as I have had a chugging reading slump. The novel I’m reading now, Mistletoe and Mr. Right has definitely kick-started my reading back again! I can’t wait to get around to Oblivion and hopefully I’ll end up ticking these books and more on my TBR list! Christmas is coming (has anyone noticed the falling snow on my blog 🙂 ) and I can’t wait to do some comforting holiday reading!

Merry Christmas🎅
